Engine upgrades for 2018 Mustang GT

When the 2018 Ford Mustang GT first debuted in January, the automaker was quick to point out a few of the upgrades made to the car’s power plant. In the release from Ford, it says that the 5.0-liter, V-8 engine has been retooled to be more powerful and make more revolutions than ever before. The automaker credits the unspecified boost in performance to ‘…new dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection on a V-8 engine…’ Additionally, the 2018 Mustang GT will be getting a brand new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The new gear changer has quicker shift times and is electronically controlled to provide for different driving modes.

How much power will the 2018 Mustang GT make?

Exact numbers for the power output for the 2018 Ford Mustang GT are still being held by the automaker. But a January article on the Road and Track website offers some ideas. According to author Chris Perkins’ prognostications, the 2018 Mustang GT will be able to put up to 455 horsepower into its wheels. That would equal about a 20-horsepower boost over last year. The article also talks about new factory-approved aftermarket performance components being available to push that number even higher.
