“We call our F-Series customers ‘bold guardians of the brand,’” Ford truck design chief Gordon Platto said in a press release. “These customers know our Built Ford Tough DNA, and they want their trucks to convey strength, capability, boldness and power – without being ‘in your face’ aggressive.”

Why does the new F-150 look like the Super Duty?

When the 2018 Ford F-150 gets to O.C. Welch Ford Lincoln, first-time observers of the new full-size pickup truck may notice it has a vaguely familiar look. Ford designers didn’t need to look far for the inspiration of the 2018 Ford F-150. The Super Duty series of pickups have been redesigned, so that design language was used in small parts for the new F-150. Some of the common elements include:

  • Chamfered hood and fenders for better aerodynamics
  • Several billet-milled features made from military-grade aluminum
  • Drop-down windows for better outward visibility
  • Muscular fenders for instant recognition of capability

Ford has also increased the range of wheel sizes available for the 2018 F-150, depending on trim grade and customer preference, the wheels can go from 17 to 22 inches.
